Travelling should never hurt. That is why every ticket booked through Desi Flights comes with FREE wheelchair assistance — the airlines provide it free of charge, and we make sure you actually get it. A trained helper meets your parent or elder at check-in, takes them through security and immigration, waits with them at the gate, helps again at the connection, and brings them right to arrivals at the other end — where family or the pre-booked taxi is waiting.
Maa-Bapu ji layi wheelchair bilkul FREE hai — koi fee nahi, koi hidden charge nahi. Bas booking vele das do, baki asi sambh lavange.
Wheelchair assistance is provided by the airline / airport and is free on most airlines — availability is confirmed by the airline for your exact flight, so requesting early (48–72 hours ahead) matters. For a personal escort as well, see meet & assist and our parents travel guide.
No video, no fuss — here is the whole booking story in simple Punjabi, the way we would explain it at home. Read it yourself in about 30 seconds, or read it aloud to Maa and Bapu ji so they can book with full confidence.

Our WhatsApp number is being set up — the chat button will appear right here the day it opens. No number is published until the service is live, so nobody messages the wrong place.

The long flight home is only half the journey. Once you land, many families still need an onward flight inside India — Delhi to Amritsar, Mumbai to Ahmedabad, Bengaluru to Kochi — and hotel nights along the way. MakeMyTrip is one of India’s best-known booking sites for exactly that, so you can now compare and book those India-side flights and hotels there too.
Every major Indian route and airline in one search — IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, Akasa Air and more — for the onward hop home after your international flight, or a separate trip inside India altogether.
Search flights on MakeMyTrip →From 5-star stays in Delhi and Mumbai to simple, clean hotels in smaller towns near the family home — handy for wedding weeks, late-night arrivals and nights between connections.
Search hotels on MakeMyTrip →Check your route here and on MakeMyTrip, compare the final totals side by side, and book whichever works out better for your family. Either way: Better Price Guaranteed, No Hidden Fees, and 100% Safe & Secure Payment.
Back to our flight search →Live fares, availability and the final total for each flight or hotel are shown clearly on MakeMyTrip before you pay. One heads-up: check the bag allowance on domestic fares — many include less than the 2 checked bags you get on international flights.
Desi means all of us. The same clear baggage info and language help for flights to Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet.
Look at any Desi family’s itinerary and Dubai is on half of them — Emirates flies through it, Etihad through nearby Abu Dhabi, and plenty of travellers have family or business there too. Two ways to use it: as the smoothest connection to South Asia, or — our favourite — turned into a one or two-night stopover that cuts a 20-hour journey into two gentle halves.
Many Gulf routings let you build a night or two in Dubai into the same trip instead of spending four tired hours in a transit lounge. For elders and small children the difference is enormous: a real bed, a proper meal, and a second, shorter flight the next day. Dubai stays are in the Hotels tab at the top of this page.
Downtown for the Burj Khalifa and the fountain lake; then Old Dubai — the gold and spice souks, an abra boat across the Creek, and the wind-tower lanes of Al Fahidi. With a second evening, a desert safari from our tours is the one travellers talk about for years.
Nobody goes hungry for Desi food in Dubai: Karama, Deira and Satwa are packed with Punjabi, Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants, dhabas and sweet shops — for many families the stopover dinner is a highlight of the whole trip.
A stopover means entering the UAE, not just transiting — check the visa/entry requirements for your passport before you plan one, and if you’re connecting onward through Europe afterwards, keep the transit-visa caution in our visa, OCI & transit guide in mind.
Wherever in the world the Desi family now lives — the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia or the Gulf — the journey home starts the same way, and the help is in your own language: Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Bangla and English.

Not every trip is straight to the family home. Sometimes the flight lands at 1 am, sometimes the house is full for a wedding, sometimes you just want two quiet nights in the city first. Book the stay here too.
After 20 hours in the air, the last thing anyone wants is haggling outside the terminal with four suitcases and tired kids. Pre-book it: fixed price, paid in advance, driver already there.
Tap one and we’ll set up the taxi search for you.
Light bags, city hotel drops and short rides. Cheapest way to skip the taxi queue.
Our most-booked choice — room for 4–5 people and the full 2-bags-each load.
Joint-family trips, weddings and extra luggage. Everyone and everything in one vehicle.
The airport taxi gets you home from the airport. Ola gets you everywhere after that — for the whole trip. It’s the ride app most of India already uses: book in seconds, see the fare before you ride, and a car or auto comes to your door — no standing on the road, no haggling over every ride.
The lowest-fare car for daily use — market, relatives, station drops. Best for 1–3 people with light bags.
Bigger sedan, more legroom — a better pick for parents, longer city drives and airport runs inside India.
Room for the joint family and full suitcases. Our pick for wedding days and station pickups with bags.
Quick, cheap auto-rickshaw rides for short distances — bazaar lanes and crowded old-city streets.
One car and driver for a few hours — do five stops in one trip: shopping, temple, relatives, and back.
One-way or round-trip between cities — for when the family home is hours away from where you land or stay.
Tap a city and we’ll set up the Ola search for you.
Ola rides are booked and paid in the Ola app / on olacabs.com — you’ll need an Indian mobile number or the Ola app on your phone once you’re in India. Note: Ola operates in India only, so for Lahore, Karachi and Dhaka use the Airport Taxi tab above for pre-booked transfers.
The giant travel sites sell every route on Earth. We sell a handful of routes — yours — and we do the small things they don’t.
Most families check Google Flights, Skyscanner, Expedia, Kayak or MakeMyTrip before booking — you should too. Fares change every day and no site is cheapest on every route, every date. So compare the final total and the help you get, not just the first price on the screen. That is where Desi Flights wins.

You flew 20 hours to get here — make the days count. These are the experiences our families ask for most, from the Taj Mahal at sunrise to an evening at the Golden Temple. Book them right here before you go — with 100% Safe & Secure Payment — or as the plan comes together on the ground.
Early start, worth every minute: the Taj at sunrise, Agra Fort, and back in Delhi by evening — most trips include hotel pickup and a guide who knows where the crowds aren’t.
Two Delhis in one day: the lanes and bazaars of Old Delhi and the Jama Masjid, then India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb and the wide avenues of New Delhi.
Go at dusk when the Sri Harmandir Sahib glows over the sarovar, sit for kirtan, and take langar. Many visitors pair it with Jallianwala Bagh and the Wagah Border ceremony.
The Gateway of India, Marine Drive, the dhobi ghats and a sunset by the Sea Link — plus street-food walks for anyone who came home hungry for the real thing.
Charminar, the Laad Bazaar bangle lanes, Golconda Fort and a biryani stop that locals argue about — the old city is best explored with someone who knows it.
Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, Shalimar Gardens and a food street evening under the fort walls. Guided city experiences with local experts who know every lane.
Old Dhaka by rickshaw: Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manzil (the Pink Palace), a Sadarghat riverfront boat ride and biryani in the old town lanes.
Live prices, availability, pickup details and cancellation terms are shown clearly for each experience before you book. Better Price Guaranteed — No Hidden Fees, and every booking is covered by 100% Safe & Secure Payment. Very safe, very secure.
For many families the best way around India isn’t ride-by-ride — it’s one car and a driver who knows the roads, stays with you all day, and waits while you visit. Book a private car with driver for the whole trip, a few days, or a single long run.
The quote, what’s included (fuel, tolls, driver stay) and cancellation terms are shown clearly before you pay — Better Price Guaranteed, No Hidden Fees, and every booking covered by 100% Safe & Secure Payment.
Comfortable for city sightseeing and short outstation runs with light luggage.
The wedding-week favourite — room for elders, kids and bags on Punjab and highway runs.
For joint families and wedding parties who want everyone in one vehicle, one plan.
More Desi trips go wrong over baggage than anything else. A fare that looks $80 cheaper can cost $150 extra at the check-in counter.
2 checked bags — 23 kg (50 lb) eachStandard on most full-service economy fares to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
1 cabin bag — usually 7–10 kgPlus a small personal item like a handbag or laptop bag.
Meals includedOn full-service long-haul airlines, meals come with the ticket — including vegetarian options if you request them when booking.
Pick your US city and your home city, choose dates, and tell us how many bags you travel with.
Booking for parents or elders? Note the FREE wheelchair request with the ticket — help at every airport, no charge. Need a first night near the airport, a driver waiting at arrivals, or daily rides once you’re in India? Add it from the Hotels, Airport Taxi and Ola Taxi tabs at the top — same dates, same trip.

Reconfirm the free wheelchair 48 hours before flying. Very safe, very secure — and we’re here online to help you make sense of it all.
Don’t wrestle with the details alone. Plan the whole trip right here — flight, hotel, a taxi waiting for them at arrivals, and Ola rides for them in India — with wheelchair help, meal requests and elder-friendly layovers all thought through.
When Maa and Bapu ji come to stay, the last worry anyone wants is an American hospital bill. Healthcare in the USA is among the most expensive in the world, your US health plan does not cover visiting parents, and visitors are not eligible for US government health programs. One emergency-room visit or a few days in hospital can run into tens of thousands of dollars — visitor travel medical insurance exists for exactly this.
Compare plans side by side, read the terms, exclusions and claim process carefully before you buy, and choose the cover that fits your parents best — every purchase is protected by 100% Safe & Secure Payment. Very safe, very secure.
Emergency medical careDoctor visits, emergency room and urgent treatment for new illnesses and accidents during the visit.
HospitalisationHospital stays, surgery and intensive care if something serious happens — the bills no family should face alone.
Trip interruptionHelp with costs if the trip is cut short or disrupted by a covered emergency.
And the extras that matterEmergency medical evacuation, prescriptions after an emergency, and 24×7 assistance lines — check each plan’s exact list.
Land in Delhi, Amritsar or Mumbai, switch off airplane mode, and your phone is already online. An eSIM is a digital SIM you buy and install before you fly — no airport SIM queues, no passport-photo counters, no swapping tiny cards at 2 am. The same idea works for Pakistan and Bangladesh trips too.
Buy online, scan a QR code at home, and data starts the moment you land — maps, Ola, and “landed safely” messages without hunting for Wi-Fi.
Skip the SIM counter queue entirely after a 20-hour flight. Your US SIM stays in the phone — nothing to lose, nothing to swap back at the end of the trip.
WhatsApp stays on your American number, so family groups and contacts work exactly as before — the eSIM quietly handles the mobile data.
Most newer iPhones and Android phones support eSIM — your phone model is checked before you pay. Data plans and prices are shown clearly before you book; ideally buy and activate a day before you fly — with 100% Safe & Secure Payment.
Our parents carried us through every journey of childhood. When they fly — to visit us in America, or home again — a little planning makes the long flight gentle. These are the steps we walk every family through.
Ask when you book — it’s free on most airlines. Staff then help at every airport: check-in, security, the gate, and right to arrivals at the other end. Reconfirm 48 hours before flying, and arrive a little early.
Pick a special meal when booking — vegetarian, Jain (no onion, garlic or root vegetables), halal, vegan and diabetic options exist on most long-haul airlines. Reconfirm it 48–72 hours before the flight so the right tray is loaded.
Daily medicines always go in the cabin bag, never in checked luggage — in original packaging, with the prescriptions and a doctor’s list. Carry a few extra days’ supply in case of delays.
For visits to the USA, medical cover is the one thing not to skip — see our visitor insurance section and arrange it before they fly, not after they land.
Every couple of hours: a short walk down the aisle, ankle circles and foot flexes in the seat, and regular water. It keeps circulation moving and legs comfortable on 15-hour sectors — and compression socks help too.
Sleep on the destination’s clock during the flight, get daylight on arrival, and keep the first day light — home food, a nap, no big functions. A pre-booked airport taxi means no travel stress at the other end.
The paperwork side, in plain words. Every traveller’s situation is different, so treat this as a starting map — then confirm the details on the official sites linked in each card before you book or apply.
US passport holders can apply for an Indian tourist e-Visa online before travel — no consulate visit for most applicants. Apply only on the official government portal, apply days ahead (not the night before), and carry a printout of the approval with your passport.
Official: indianvisaonline.gov.in →The Overseas Citizen of India card is for former Indian citizens and their spouses who now hold another passport. It gives lifelong, multiple-entry travel to India without a visa each time. Applications go through the official OCI services portal and your local Indian consulate’s process — allow generous time, as processing takes weeks, not days.
Official: ociservices.gov.in →Most travellers to Pakistan now apply through the official Pakistan Online Visa System before travelling, or via a Pakistan consulate. Processing times and whether your passport needs prior clearance vary — start early, especially for family visits around Eid and wedding season.
Official: visa.nadra.gov.pk →Rules depend on your passport: some US citizens can get a visa on arrival for short tourist stays, while others should arrange a visa from a Bangladesh consulate in advance. Because this changes, confirm the current rule for your exact passport with the consulate before relying on it.
The visa you need depends on the passport you hold — not where you live. A US passport, an Indian passport with a US green card, and an OCI card all carry different rights for India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Check the combination that matches your family before booking anyone’s ticket.
The name on the ticket must match the passport letter for letter — including middle names as shown. Mismatches are the most common paperwork problem we see, and airlines can refuse boarding over them.
Many cheap fares to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh connect through London, Frankfurt, Paris or Munich — and some travellers need a transit visa just to change planes there, even without leaving the airport. Whether you need one depends on your passport and any visas or residence permits you already hold (for example, a valid US visa changes the answer for some travellers at some hubs). Always verify your exact transit-visa position on the airline’s website and the connecting country’s official government site before you pay for the ticket — being refused boarding at check-in is the most expensive way to learn the rule.
This guide is general information to help you plan — it is not legal or immigration advice, and visa rules change without notice. Desi Flights cannot check your personal eligibility; always confirm requirements with the official government and airline sources for your passport and route before booking.
OCI applications and visa forms are long, the photo rules are fussy, and one wrong field can send the whole file back. Our paperwork help service sits with you — or with your parents — and gets the application right the first time.
Enquiries for this service will open with our WhatsApp channel. This is application help and guidance only — it is not legal advice, and every visa and OCI decision rests with the government authorities. Always follow the official requirements on the government sites linked in the visa guide above.

The five airlines our customers fly most between the USA and South Asia, side by side. One caution that applies to all of them: allowances vary by fare type — the cheapest “lite” fares can include fewer bags — so always confirm the allowance on the airline’s page for the exact fare before you buy.
Bags: standard economy on USA–India routes typically includes 2 checked bags of 23 kg — student and some promotional fares can differ.
Meals: the widest Desi choice — vegetarian, Jain, Hindu and Muslim meal options among its special meals, requested at booking.

For most families the honest answer is: the one with the right bags, a layover your elders can manage, and a total journey that doesn’t arrive broken. Search your route at the top and compare all five on those three things — not just the headline fare.
Search & compare flights →First flight out is a big day — for the student, and for the parents packing the bags back home. A little extra care at this end makes the landing on the other side much calmer. We’re proud of every one of you; fly well.
Some airlines and student fares allow extra checked baggage for students travelling on a student visa — sometimes a third bag or extra kilos. It’s never automatic: check the student fare rules on the airline’s page and confirm before you pay, and carry your visa and admission proof when you travel, as some airlines ask to see them at check-in.
Passport with your student visa, your I-20 (USA) or study-permit and letter of acceptance (Canada), university address and emergency contacts — in your cabin bag, with phone copies too. Checked bags get delayed; your first immigration interview can’t wait for them.
Reach the airport a full 3 hours before an international departure — first trips have extra document checks. Choose a sensible layover (immigration happens at your first US airport), keep your university’s international-student office number saved, and let family know you’ve landed before you leave the terminal.
The first and last hour of the trip is where travellers get stressed. Here is what actually happens at the three airports our families use most.
After immigration and baggage, you’ll find eSIM and SIM counters, money exchange and prepaid taxi counters inside the terminal — the prepaid counter gives a fixed-price slip, no bargaining. The Airport Express metro runs from Terminal 3 to New Delhi station for city stays. Family meeting you? They wait outside arrivals — drivers with name boards stand at the exit railings.
A smaller, calmer airport — you’re usually outside within the hour. Prepaid taxis are available at the counter, most Punjab towns are a straightforward drive, and family waits right outside the arrivals exit. If you’ve pre-booked a taxi or Ola pickup, agree the exact meeting point before you land; the terminal is small enough that it’s easy to find each other.
Arrive a full 3 hours before an international flight — check-in and document checks for India-bound flights take time. Have passport, visa or OCI card and your ticket ready at the counter, bags weighed at home (23 kg each), and medicines and documents in your hand baggage. Most India-bound flights depart from Terminal 5 — check your ticket, and drop elders at the terminal door before parking.
Run through this the night before you fly. Everything on this list belongs in your hand baggage or at the top of your case — the things a trip genuinely can’t start without.
The same families who book flights with us send money home every month. Two things decide what your family actually receives: the exchange rate you’re given and the fee taken out. Before you send, compare both — a “no fee” offer with a poor rate can cost more than a small fee at a fair rate.
Convert your dollars with our USD–INR converter first so you know the indicative market rate — then see how close each service’s rate gets to it.
Judge a service by one number: how many rupees, takas or rupees your family receives for the dollars you send. Both options below show that total clearly before you confirm.
Send a small amount first, confirm it lands in the right account, then send the rest. Keep the transfer receipt until your family confirms receipt.
Send with Wise → Send with Remitly →
Rates and fees are shown clearly before you send, so you always know exactly what your family will receive. Every transfer is protected by 100% Safe & Secure Payment — very safe, very secure, with full yakeen.
Watch the planes that carry our families home, check any flight’s full info and route, see whether it is on time or delayed, look back over the last 2 weeks, and get flight alerts by email or message. Sara data — one section, nothing hidden.
The map shows our hub airports (numbered pins) and the main Desi routes between them. Pick an area in “Planes in the sky right now” below, and that area’s real live planes appear on this map as red dots too — tap any dot for its flight and altitude. Tap a pin or a city in the list for its live departures, arrivals and delays.
Real aircraft positions from the OpenSky Network, loaded fresh when you tap an area. Callsign, where the plane is registered, altitude, speed and heading — no made-up planes, ever. Pick an area to load its live planes.
Pick a route and see everything together: distance, typical flying time, non-stop or stops, the airlines that fly it, the hub you connect through, bags, and the time right now at both ends of the journey.
Enter a flight number for its live status — actual departure & arrival, delay minutes, gate and aircraft — or pick an airport for its live departure & arrival boards with today’s delays and cancellations.
How to read it: a flight up to 15 minutes late is counted on time. If your flight slips past 45 minutes, re-check your connection — and if parents are travelling alone, this is the moment to call the airline or email us and we’ll help you re-plan.
Want to know how a flight has actually been doing — on time every day, or late all week — before you book it or go to pick someone up? Enter the flight number and open any day from the last 2 weeks: actual departure & arrival times, delay and aircraft for that day, from the flight’s real record.
Saaf gall: eh koi automatic machine-alert system nahi hai — tusi sadi team nu email yaan message karke flight das dinde ho, te sadi team us flight nu watch karke tuhanu updates bhejdi hai — delay, gate change, boarding, landing. Nobody should have to keep refreshing a page. Fill this in, then tap how you want to reach us: the email opens ready-written to our team at support@cheapdesiflights.com, or copy the same alert as a message to send from your own phone. For instant automatic push alerts, the free FlightAware / FlightRadar24 apps alert on any flight too — the note below explains.
For instant push alerts on your phone, the free FlightAware and FlightRadar24 apps also alert on any flight in about a minute — set the same flight number there and both will watch it with you.
Two small tools our travellers use every day: what your dollars are worth back home, and where your flight actually is.
Today’s indicative rate, loaded live when this page opens.
Fetching the latest USD–INR rate.
Indicative rate only — banks and cards give slightly less, and money-transfer services set their own rates and fees.
Picking someone up, or flying yourself? Enter the flight number — airline code plus number, like AI126, UA909 or QR724 — and we’ll open its live status in a new tab.
Live status, gate and delay information, updated in real time — so you always know exactly where your flight is.
When a fare drops on the routes Desi families actually fly — Chicago to Amritsar, New York to Delhi, Dallas to Hyderabad — our WhatsApp channel hears about it first. Short, honest alerts in Punjabi, Hindi and English: the route, the dates, and how to book. No spam, no noise — only fares worth your attention.
The channel is being set up now. The join button will appear right here the day it opens — we won’t publish a link until it’s real.
Our way of saying thank you to the families who fly with us again and again. The club is completely free — there is no joining cost, and no points program: we’re honest that points aren’t ours to give. What we can give is our time and care, first. And you still earn your airline’s own frequent-flyer miles on every booking, exactly as you would anywhere else.
Club members see the cheapest fares before everyone else — the same WhatsApp alerts, in Punjabi, Hindi and English, while the seats are still there.
Web check-in done for you, help choosing seats together, and a hand with date changes and understanding your ticket’s rules — free, for members, every trip.
Wheelchair requests placed, vegetarian, Jain and halal meals arranged, layovers chosen with elders in mind — your parents are looked after like our own.
Send your family and friends to us, and your next booking gets priority help — first in the queue for check-in, seats and changes. Loyalty here means seva, not points.
The club runs through our free WhatsApp fare-alert channel — one join brings you the alerts and the club together, the day the channel opens.
When the whole family flies together — a wedding in Punjab, a big homecoming, a religious tour — airlines handle 10 or more travellers on one flight as a group booking, with group fares and everyone on the same plane under one arrangement.
Airlines quote group fares separately from the seats you see online, and for 10+ travellers they can work out better — especially in peak wedding and December season. The earlier the enquiry, the wider the choice of flights.
One booking for the whole party: same flight, seats together where possible, the same baggage rules for everyone, and names that can often be finalised closer to departure than individual tickets allow.
You’ll send us the route, rough dates and how many are travelling; we take it to the airlines’ group desks and come back with the options and rules in plain language. No payment is taken until your family chooses a fare and its terms.
Group enquiries will open through our WhatsApp channel when it launches — that’s where the enquiry button will live, so your details go to us directly and nowhere else.
The December holidays are the biggest family-travel weeks of the year on the Chicago–Amritsar route — and the weeks when seats scatter across flights and fares climb fastest. If your family is thinking of flying home together this December, a group arrangement is how everyone lands on the same flight, on group terms, instead of six separate bookings at six different prices. Enquiries open with our WhatsApp channel — plan early, December waits for no one.
Small, useful updates for our travelling families. This corner is refreshed regularly as routes, rules and services change.
Airlines keep adding nonstop links between American cities and India — Chicago, New York, Newark and San Francisco now have direct flights to Delhi and Mumbai, with Bengaluru service growing too. Nonstops cut hours off the journey and remove the connection worry entirely for elders.
On most full-service airlines between the USA and South Asia, 2 checked bags of 23 kg remains the standard economy allowance — but “lite” fares with fewer bags keep spreading. Whatever fare you’re offered, check the bags before the price. Our airline guide shows the picture airline by airline.
More travellers now land in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh with data already working — an eSIM installed at home replaces the airport SIM queue and keeps your US WhatsApp number untouched. If your phone supports it, it’s the calmest first ten minutes of the trip. See our eSIM section.
For our Muslim travellers — from Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian families across the USA — Umrah is a journey of the heart. We can’t arrange the religious side of your trip, and we wouldn’t pretend to. What we do well is the travel side: the right flights, sensible stops for elders, and a clear picture of how the pieces fit together.
Most Umrah journeys fly into Jeddah — the gateway for Makkah — or directly into Madinah, and many travellers fly into one city and home from the other so no road journey is repeated. From the USA, one-stop routings run via Doha, Dubai, Istanbul and Abu Dhabi on Qatar Airways, Emirates, Turkish Airlines and Etihad. Jeddah (JED) and Madinah (MED) are both in the flight search at the top of this page.
Umrah visas and packages are arranged through licensed Umrah operators and approved travel agents, usually together with ground transport and hotel arrangements. Desi Flights does not issue Umrah visas. Our part is to help you find the right flights for your dates and to point you towards licensed operator options for the visa and package — always check that any operator you use is properly licensed before you pay them.
In Makkah, travellers look for stays near Masjid al-Haram; in Madinah, near Masjid an-Nabawi. For elders especially, walking distance — or a hotel with a reliable shuttle — matters far more than a small saving on a far-away room. Makkah and Madinah are both in the Hotels tab at the top of this page.
Ramadan and the school-holiday weeks are the busiest Umrah times of the year — flights and near-Haram rooms fill early, so those trips deserve the earliest planning. Umrah travel rules (visa types, who may travel, entry requirements) do change from time to time: always confirm the current requirements with your licensed Umrah operator and official Saudi sources before you book, and make sure every traveller’s passport and documents are in order well before departure. May your journey be accepted and your return safe.
A first flight with your baby is exciting and a little nerve-wracking — we’ve all been there. The good news: airlines are set up for exactly this. Here is how the lap-infant rules, bassinets, baby food and strollers actually work on long international flights.
A baby under 2 can usually travel on a parent’s lap on international flights for an infant fare — typically a small percentage of the adult fare, plus taxes and fees. The exact amount varies by airline and is confirmed when you book; some families instead buy the baby their own seat at a child fare for the extra space. Either way, your baby needs their own ticket and their own passport — even on your lap.
Many long-haul airlines fit a bassinet (sky cot) at the bulkhead seats for small babies. Bassinets are limited in number and usually have size and weight limits set by the airline — request one when you book, reconfirm before you fly, and check in early, because they’re given out in request order. A bulkhead seat also means a little more legroom for the parent on duty.
Formula, breast milk and baby food are treated specially at airport security: in reasonable quantities for your journey, they’re allowed through even beyond the usual liquids limits. Tell the officer you have them — they may be screened separately or opened for testing — and pack more than you think you need, because delays happen and a hungry baby waits for no airline.
On most airlines you can use your stroller right up to the aircraft door and gate-check it there free of charge; it’s returned at the arrival gate or with baggage, depending on the airport. A baby carrier is worth packing too — it keeps your hands free for passports and bags exactly when you need them.
Your baby travels on their own passport, plus a visa or OCI card for the destination if one applies to them. If only one parent is travelling with the baby, some airlines and border officers ask for a consent letter from the other parent — carrying a signed copy, with a copy of their ID, costs nothing and can save the whole trip.
Feeding during take-off and landing helps little ears with the pressure change. Pack a full change of clothes for the baby and one for you in the cabin bag, a couple of new small toys saved for the plane, and ask the crew to warm bottles — they do it all the time and are usually happy to help a young family.
For parents travelling alone, elders, and anyone flying long-haul for the first time, the hardest part of the journey is often inside the airport: big terminals, long walks, security lines and tight connections. Meet-and-assist is the service made for exactly that — and many travellers simply don’t know it exists.
A member of airport or airline staff meets the traveller and stays with them through the journey inside the terminal: help at check-in, through security and immigration, across the terminal on connections, and right to the departure gate — or, on arrival, from the gate through to the arrivals hall where family (or the pre-booked taxi driver) is waiting.
Most large airlines offer assistance services through their special-assistance pages — the airlines in our airline guide (Air India, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad and Turkish Airlines) are the place to start — and many big hub airports also run their own meet-and-assist or greeter services. Availability, what’s included, and whether there is a charge all vary by airline and airport.
Meet-and-assist is requested with the airline at booking or right after — through the airline’s special-assistance page or by phone — and it’s best done at least 48–72 hours before flying. Note the difference: wheelchair assistance is free on most airlines and requested the same way, while a personal meet-and-assist escort is a separate service that some charge for. The two combine well.
For parents travelling alone, our favourite combination is: wheelchair or meet-and-assist at every airport on the way, plus a pre-booked airport taxi waiting at the far end — so the whole journey, door to door, has a hand to hold. See the parents travel guide for the full checklist.
Many of our travellers are over 60, and families often ask: is there a senior discount? Sometimes, yes — but the honest picture is narrower than most people expect. Here is how senior-citizen concessions actually work, so nobody books a regular fare and hopes for a discount afterwards.
Air India is the airline best known for a senior-citizen concession — for travellers aged 60 and over — and it is offered mainly on domestic India routes and selected fare types; other Indian carriers have offered similar concessions on domestic sectors from time to time. On long international routes like USA–India, senior discounts are uncommon. Concessions vary and change, so always check the airline’s own page for your exact route and fare at the time you book.
Where a concession is offered, it only applies when you choose the senior-citizen fare category during booking — it can’t be added afterwards to a regular fare. And compare before you celebrate: occasionally an ordinary sale fare works out cheaper than the senior fare, so check both and take the lower total.
The travelling senior must carry a government photo ID showing their date of birth — the passport you’re travelling on normally covers this. Airlines can ask to see it at check-in, and if age can’t be proved, the concession can be refused and the fare difference charged. Keep the ID with the ticket, not in a checked bag.
Discount or not, the things that matter most for senior travellers cost nothing: elder-friendly layovers, wheelchair help, the right meals and a meet-and-assist escort. Our parents travel guide and meet & assist section walk through all of it.
Desi Flights is new, and our first travellers are still packing their bags. Real reviews from real customers will appear here once bookings begin — written by the families who actually flew, in their own words. We won’t invent a single one.
Email us any time — support@cheapdesiflights.com for questions and help with any trip or booking, or bookings@cheapdesiflights.com for booking help, parents travelling alone and group trips. Write in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Bangla or English — whichever is easiest for you. Our WhatsApp “Ticket Puchho” service is launching soon; until it opens, email reaches us directly.
Yes — 100% Safe & Secure Payment. Every payment is protected with secure, encrypted checkout — the same safety your bank uses. Very safe, very secure: pay with full confidence, with No Hidden Fees, and your e-ticket and payment receipt come straight to your email as your proof.
Fares are usually lowest for late January–March and mid-August–early October departures, and highest around Diwali, Christmas–New Year and June–July school holidays. Booking 6–10 weeks ahead for long-haul usually beats both last-minute and booking a year out. If your dates can move by even 2–3 days, check the days around them — midweek departures are often cheaper.
On most full-service economy fares between the USA and India, Pakistan or Bangladesh, yes — 2 bags of 23 kg (50 lb) each is the long-standing standard. But some airlines now sell “lite” fares with fewer bags, which is exactly why we make you choose your bag needs in the search and tell you to check the allowance on the fare before paying.
Book with full confidence — every booking is covered by 100% Safe & Secure Payment, with Better Price Guaranteed and No Hidden Fees. Your e-ticket and confirmation come straight to your email; changes, cancellations and refunds follow the fare rules shown clearly at checkout, and your confirmation email explains exactly how to get help with any change.
Yes — that’s half of why we exist. You can search and book for them right here using their passport names and travel dates — pick elder-friendly timings and layovers, and add the FREE wheelchair request with their ticket.
Yes — bilkul FREE. Wheelchair assistance is provided free of charge by most airlines, and we promote it with every ticket we sell: tell us at booking, request it with the airline right away (special-assistance page or phone), and reconfirm 48 hours before flying. Staff then help at check-in, security, the gate, at any connection, and right through to arrivals. There is no Desi Flights fee and no hidden charge for it — see the full guide in our free wheelchair section.
Pay with Visa, Mastercard or American Express (plus other major debit and credit cards shown at checkout) through 100% Safe & Secure Payment — secure, encrypted checkout, the same safety your bank uses. Very safe, very secure, with No Hidden Fees, and your e-ticket and receipt come straight to your email.
Yes. Chicago O’Hare is our home airport, but the search covers New York, Newark, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington, Seattle, Atlanta, Boston, Detroit and Minneapolis — plus Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary in Canada — and every destination in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh listed above.
Yes — use the Hotels tab at the top. It’s made for how our families travel: airport hotels for late-night arrivals, family rooms for weddings and longer stays, and stays in Delhi, Amritsar, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lahore, Karachi, Dhaka and Sylhet. Many hotels offer free cancellation or pay-at-hotel — check the terms on the room you pick before you pay, and pay with 100% Safe & Secure Payment.
Yes — for onward travel inside India (domestic flights like Delhi to Amritsar, and hotels in Indian cities and towns), you can also compare and book on MakeMyTrip. See our MakeMyTrip section — and whichever you choose, you get Better Price Guaranteed, No Hidden Fees and 100% Safe & Secure Payment.
Use the Airport Taxi tab: pick the airport, the town or village you’re going to, the date and a vehicle big enough for your bags. The price is fixed before you fly. Your driver tracks your flight, waits at arrivals with a name board, and helps with luggage. It’s the safest option for parents travelling alone and for anyone landing late at night — book it from here, they just walk out and find their name.
The airport taxi is pre-booked for one job: meeting you at arrivals and taking you door-to-door, often to another town or village. Ola is for everyday rides inside Indian cities once you’ve landed — home to the bazaar, hotel to the Golden Temple, hospital visits, weddings. Pick your city, pickup and drop in the Ola Taxi tab above, choose Mini, Prime, SUV, Auto, Rentals or Outstation, and finish the booking in the Ola app or on olacabs.com, where you’ll see the fare before you ride and can pay by cash, card or UPI. Ola works in India only — for Pakistan and Bangladesh, use the pre-booked Airport Taxi instead.
Yes, that’s one of our most popular transfers — Delhi Airport to Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar and towns and villages across Punjab. Pick an SUV / Innova or a large van so the whole family and all the bags fit in one vehicle, and expect rest stops on the longer runs. The same door-to-door idea works from Lahore and Dhaka airports too.
A valid passport, and the right visa or status for your destination — for example an Indian visa or OCI card for India if you’re no longer an Indian citizen. Rules change, so check your destination’s official requirements well before your travel date, and make sure your passport name matches the ticket exactly.
It isn’t a legal requirement, but we strongly recommend it. US healthcare is very expensive, your own US health plan won’t cover visiting parents, and visitors can’t use US government health programs — one hospital stay can cost more than the whole trip many times over. Visitor plans cover emergency medical care, hospitalisation and trip interruption; compare them in our visitor insurance section and book the plan that fits your parents best — with 100% Safe & Secure Payment.
An eSIM is a digital SIM you buy online and install with a QR code before you fly — your phone gets mobile data the moment you land in India (and similar eSIMs exist for Pakistan and Bangladesh), with no airport SIM queue and no swapping cards. Your US number stays active for calls and WhatsApp. Most newer phones support eSIM; check yours and see plans in our eSIM section.
It depends on the route, but the pattern is similar across most of them: late January–March and September–early October are usually the kindest months, while Diwali, Christmas–New Year and June–July cost the most. Our cheapest-month guide breaks it down route by route — Chicago to Delhi and Amritsar, Dallas and San Francisco to Hyderabad, Toronto to Delhi, Chicago to Lahore, New York to Dhaka and more.
With the travel side, yes: Jeddah (JED) and Madinah (MED) are in the flight search, and Makkah and Madinah are in the Hotels tab. Umrah visas and packages themselves are arranged through licensed Umrah operators and approved agents — we don’t issue visas. See our Umrah travel section for how the pieces fit together, and always confirm current rules with your licensed operator before booking.
Usually the baby travels on a parent’s lap for an infant fare — typically a small percentage of the adult fare plus taxes, confirmed at booking — or in their own seat at a child fare. Your baby still needs their own ticket and passport. Bassinets can be requested on many long-haul flights, and formula and baby food pass security in reasonable quantities. Our babies & infants guide covers it all.
Meet & assist is a staff escort inside the airport: help through check-in, security, connections and to the gate. Wheelchair assistance is free on most airlines; a personal meet-and-assist escort is a separate service that some airlines and airports charge for. Both are requested with the airline at booking or right after, ideally 48–72 hours ahead. See the meet & assist section.
Sometimes — Air India is known for a senior-citizen concession (60+) mainly on domestic India routes and selected fare types, and other Indian carriers have offered similar on domestic sectors. On USA–India international routes such discounts are uncommon and the rules change, so check the airline’s page for your exact fare at booking — and remember the senior fare category must be chosen during booking, with photo ID proof of age carried at check-in. See the senior fares section.
Yes, completely free — no joining cost and no points program (points aren’t ours to give; you still earn your airline’s own frequent-flyer miles as usual). Members get fare alerts first on our WhatsApp channel, free web check-in and seat help on repeat bookings, extra care for parents travelling, and priority help when they refer family and friends. The club launches with our WhatsApp channel — see the Family Club section.
